Five by Five is an international open innovation consultancy that bridges the divide between large organizations and startups. They help organizations of all stripes understand how startups work, how to work with them and how to work like them.
They were born digital in 2013, built for and by a generation whose default values are responsiveness, agility and collaboration.
Five by Five co-develops with clients and partners to build the solutions they need to transform industries and reimagine their own way of working. They are proactive agents of change in our own community
Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to wingman for corporates for whom open innovation is the new R&D. In that regard, you will be working hand-in-hand with one of our founders to:
Uncover innovation opportunities through customer-focused design research, business model design and startup-corporate partnerships
Formulate crystal-clear strategic recommendations to both inspire and enable clients to take action in complex and uncertain environments. Then, get project vision down to an executable roadmap, collaborating with diverse stakeholders (clients, startup partners, team members, etc.) to transform insights into real-world action
Creating efficiencies to scale this work through better team structure, operating models and tools. This includes maintaining a thorough working knowledge of Five by Five's product and service offering and helping it evolve, one step ahead of an already fast-paced field.
Actively sourcing promising startups (outbound). This partly includes optimizing our database, engaging (and growing) an international network of startup scouts but especially enabling our clients to do this themselves internally.
Teaching and facilitating. Because it takes a village to make open innovation really work inside an organization. You will be co-designing courses and workshops to help build capacity for working with startups, inspiring and enabling our clients to do more.
You’re in the middle of a torrid love affair with the global startup ecosystem. You not only geek out to emerging tech trends, you've made yourself an authority on them amongst your colleagues and peers. And you’ve got a huge rolodex of existing relationships with startups, VCs, accelerators and other nodes.
You are a problem-solver at heart (Read: superior analytical skills and high empathy), and especially familiar with the specific strain of challenges corporate innovation faces today. You're fluent in lean startup, design thinking and product launch marketing.
You have a proven track record of devising and executing on strategy (ideally, partnerships, platform and product marketing), but are still willing to get your hands dirty with operational work (This is still a start-up after all.)
You’re an outstanding communicator, with a special talent for making the technical feel human. You love to write (Yes, even for fun) and are able to deliver compelling presentations in front of both technical and not-so-technical audiences. French is a priority for us at this time, although proficiency in English is necessary to work in our bilingual team.
You're a pro at participatory management: Autonomy, transparency and accountability are not just buzzwords to you. You're a productivity geek who is completely at home with the best collaboration tools (Currently: We're on Trello, Slack, Drive and Airtable).
We’re diploma-agnostic for this one. Relevant experience does count a lot though: you have had a bizdev/partnerships role at a B2B startup, had an associate role at a VC firm, done actual corporate innovation work, or been a renegade consultant or strategist at digital agency (You round pegs in square holes, you know who you are.)
(Big) bonus points if you have
